OWNI.eu, the sister site of the French site OWNI.fr, is a digital newszine focused on technology, politics, and digital culture. We are an innovative Paris based start-up company, interested in the prospects of entrepreneurial journalism and creative culture. Previous projects and well-covered topics have included cyber-activism, Internet freedom, WikiLeaks War Logs app, investigations on shale gas, off-beat news, etc.

OWNI.eu is currently looking for a full-time editor and journalist, who has the ability to translate (from French to English) and work in a French newsroom. The position would be responsible for maintaining the owni.eu blog by creating original content on digital culture (1-2 articles a week), editing translated articles from owni.fr (3 articles a week), and searching for cross posts that fit into our editorial angle (2-4 articles a week). Additionally, the editor would assist the rest of the OWNI team with their English projects, including ESL and other English documents.

Qualifications:

  • Native English speaker with proficient French speaking skills
  • Experience translating from French to English, with excellent French reading abilities. Needs to be detailed oriented, and produce ready-to-publish content.
  • Strong English writing skills with experience in editing. Journalism experience is required.
  • Fluent in digital media and culture, with experience using Wordpress, FlickR, Facebook, and other relevant digital platforms. Must have a Twitter account!
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to meet tight deadlines, with the ability to work efficiently independently and as part of a team.

The position will be a CDD for a minimum of two months, starting immediately. Compensation TBD.
