It’s Europe Day! To celebrate, OWNI offers you a little game that will take you on a journey through European cities. You simply have to guess where the pictures were taken. The further you go in the game, the smaller the cities.
Look for details to make the right guess, from the alphabet used in the graffiti to license plates on cars. The game has no end, the goal is simply to challenge your friends and show how knowledgeable (or lucky) you are about Europe. It also aims at providing a modest breath of European enthusiasm on a day when mentions of Victory Day still outnumber articles about Europe Day 5 to 3 in the press.
Under the hood
The photos might be off-the-mark, as the whole game relies on the Flickr API to display the pictures. The cities are chosen with the Freebase API, which allows for requests like ‘give me a list of cities that are in Europe and that have a population between 1 and 2 million people’. The app selects three cities at random in this list and then asks the Flickr API for a picture of one of these three places.
